Her mother is Cynthia Louise Bissett vice president of the mobile network operator Verizon. Joseph Anthony Germanotta Jr. was director of a company which manages an internet-based network. She was raised in an exclusive Upper East Side neighborhood of Manhattan as part of her Catholic family. The parents of her were enrolled at the Convent of the Sacred Heart which is a prestigious and religious institution. She was an avid musician since childhood. She first began playing piano as a child. After the age of 13 when she was thirteen, she began writing her first tune. She took part in open mic nights. She was a huge fan of Queen Michael, Madonna, and David Bowie. Upon completion of high school she attended New York University's Tisch School of Art to learn about music. When she wasn't able to complete her education and decided to leave them for a new musical endeavor.
